Safety of pedestrians and vehicle drivers has become one of the major concerns while moving on the city roads as horrific road accidents due to speeding are on the rise.
The traffic and district transport authorities have failed to take any concrete action on it. In one of the road accidents on Monday evening, a speeding Innova, touched a speed of more than 150 kmph, according to the onlookers it lost its balance and broke the divider, flipped at 4 feet in the air before hitting the footpath at Bharatnagar Chowk. Rajan Verma, an eye witness said, that the speed of the vehicle coming from the Jagraon bridge was quite high and as soon as it approached Bharat Nagar Chowk, driver could not control the vehicle and trying to avoid the collision took a sharp turn uprooting the divider. Fortunately the road was empty on the other side preventing serious damage and loss of lives. The private bus drivers while showing utter disregard for the traffic norms on road compromise the safety of thousands of commuters in the city. The traffic authorities have taken numerous steps and carried out special drives to keep a check on violations but overspeeding needs a better plan to ensure safe and secure roads in the city.

{{/usCountry}}On being asked about the measures taken by the traffic authorities to curb the menace, Richa Agnihotri, ACP traffic, said, “We have installed radars at various busy junctions in the city and keep a regular watch on the violators and slap challans against them. We have a shortcoming that these radars only operate during the day, during the night traffic cops on duty keep a tab on the violators. We will make strenuous efforts to deal with the overspeeding drivers. When asked as to what action could be taken against the drivers causing accidents, Agnihotri said that an FIR will be filed against the culprits besides heavy penalty for causing damages and violating traffic norms.
