Spurned Kapurthala girl who set herself afire dies

A 15-year-old girl, who had tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire on November 24 after a boy reportedly refused to marry her, died at the civil hospital on Tuesday.

A 15-year-old girl, who had tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire on November 24 after a boy reportedly refused to marry her, died at the civil hospital on Tuesday.

The victim, a resident of Chuhharwal village, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Kapurthala civil hospital with 90% burns.

In the first information report (FIR), the girl had stated that she was in a relationship with Gaurav (21) of the same village for a few months and he had promised to marry her.

She had accused Gaurav’s sister-in-law for convincing him not to marry her.

A case was registered against Gaurav and his sister-in-law under sections 306 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code at the city police station.
