Spurned lover sets woman’s house on fire, held

Piqued over a woman turning down his marriage proposal, a 27-year-old man, along with his accomplice, allegedly set her live-in partner’s flat on fire after stealing their air conditioner and inverter battery in Sector 32, Chandigarh Road.

Piqued over a woman turning down his marriage proposal, a 27-year-old man, along with his accomplice, allegedly set her live-in partner’s flat on fire after stealing their air conditioner and inverter battery in Sector 32, Chandigarh Road.

The accused, who has been identified as Vishal Dhiman of Dashmesh Nagar, Gill Road, has been arrested. He runs a welding workshop.

His accomplice, Harpreet Singh alias Happy, of Gill Road, who works at his workshop, is at large.

Police claimed that Dhiman confessed that he was in love with the woman, who worked in an orchestra group, and had been living with the group’s owner Gurdarshan Singh.

However, when he proposed her for marriage, she turned him down, following which he decided to take revenge.

Giving details, Sandeep Kumar Garg, station house officer (SHO), Division Number 7, said Dhiman and Harpreet Singh went to the woman’s house on Sunday and stole an air conditioner and inverter battery.
