These institutions have been found guilty of violating the Unaided Educational Institutions Act, 2016, which stipulates the annual fee hike shall not be more than 8%. The district has 135 unaided schools.

The move comes in the wake of the instructions of Ferozepur divisional commissioner VK Meena.

“The government is taking a serious note of fee hike and has instructed the schools to charge reasonable fee. We issued show-cause notices to 33 unaided schools last week and asked them to explain as why action should not be taken against them. They have to submit reply by Thursday. We have asked them to return the fee charged in excess from parents or face action,” said district education officer (DEO) Devinder Kumar Rajouria.

“The schools will have to display the fee hike on notice boards. They will have to explain on notice boards how and where they are going to spend the extra money,” Rajouria said.
