The stock had been embezzled from the consignment given to a private rice mill for shelling. The owners of Jindal Rice Mill were also arrested in a raid on the unit in Bhikhi block of this district. The warehouse official connived with them in the theft of paddy, the police have said.

Mill owners Deepak Rai, Lokesh, and Narinder Kumar; and warehouse assistant Kewal Singh are people under arrest. The raid, which was based on secret input, began on Friday night. The stock was unloaded at the mill from a truck. Truck driver Makkhan Singh was also caught.

From the spot, the police also arrested government official Kewal Singh, who was in his car at the mill. "For the 100 bags, the owners could not provide us with any details," said senior superintendent of police Narinder Bhargav. A case was registered.
