Girls and boys hostels at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have always been in the limelight for various issues. Currently, the biggest concern raised by inmates is of absence of geysers in bathrooms.
According to sources, the authorities concerned have promised the students that before the onset of winter season, electric geysers will be installed in all hostels but none has been installed so far.
Shared their plight, students said they have approached the wardens several times for installing geysers but all their requests have fallen on deaf ears.
Karanvir Singh Sandhu, a student representative, said, "After constant pressure on the authorities from students to install geysers for the past few years, the authorities concerned at the PAU did formulate a project under which geysers were to be installed in all hostels by this winter. But unfortunately this did not happen and we all are forced to take a bath with cold water daily."
Another student said, "On days when it is very cold, we skip taking a bath and sometimes we even visit the homes of our local friends to take a bath. Also, the session this year got extended till December end instead of second week of December. Most of the schools and colleges have already begun with winter vacation but we are still forced to continue with the classes in these cold days."

{{/usCountry}}Many students also raised a question that if the state government could spend several crores on World Kabaddi Cup and on Bollywood stars for their few-minute performances, then why not on the development of infrastructure of the state universities.
Director, students welfare, Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal said no student had ever come up to her with any complaint regarding geyser so far, but within a few days, installation of geysers would begin.
"I have not received any written complaint but I know that this is a cause for concern for our students. We will begin the installation work of geysers with girls' hostel first. When the students return from their short semester break of about two weeks in January they will see geysers in their bathrooms," said Dhaliwal.
