Addressing party workers here, Sharma claimed that the Congress would register a win in the politically-significant constituency as the BJP had “ignored” the region while in power.

Hitting out at Chander’s rival Shanta Kumar, Sharma alleged that “he could do nothing significant” for the people of Kangra and Chamba during his two regimes as chief minister and as a cabinet minister in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.

“Shanta is among the top leaders of the BJP, but failed to do anything significant for the development of Kangra,” alleged Sharma, adding that BJP leader did not make any serious efforts to get the Pathankot-Jogindernagar line broad-gauged when his party was in power at the Centre. He claimed that Himachal Pradesh got full statehood only through the efforts of the successive government.

Vice-chairman of forest corporation Kewal Singh Pathania also campaigned for Chander and held meetings in various parts of the Shahpur constituency. He said chief minister Virbhadra Singh would arrive in Kangra on a three-day tour and campaign for the party candidate across the district.
