The dargah, which was established in the memory of Baba Ji who hailed from Gharala village in Patti area of Amritsar, is under a trust set up in 1991 by the then senior superintendent of police Mohammad Mustfa and comprises prominent local citizens. The trust is headed ex-officio by the Ferozepur SSP.

In 1999, then DIG of Ferozepur,Hardeep Singh Dhillon, established the Baba Shershah Wali Dargah Hockey Academy to nurture talent among the youth of the vicinity, said present president of the academy and Ferozepur SSP Sukhwant Singh Gill.

Gill added toppers from classes 10 and 12 would be awarded a prize of `10,000 each by the trust. The hockey academy, where coaching is provided free of cost to young players, had an intake of mere 30 trainees in the first year and now has more than 140 kids being trained, said Lakhbir Singh, honorary secretary of the trust.
