Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday visited Muhawa village to share the grief of the bereaved families of seven schoolchildren killed in a recent road accident and announced to construct a memorial in the memory of the children.

He met the bereaved families and expressed sympathy with them. Sukhbir also announced Rs 20 lakh to set up a stadium in the village in the memory of deceased children.
As the depleted bridge was seen as a major reason for the accident, Sukhbir instructed the Public Works Department to construct a cemented fence by increasing the width by one-and-a-half feet on each side of the bridge by breaking the railing. He said all such bridges should also have such a fence.
Lauding the effort of the child named Karanbir Singh, who played as a hero and saved many lives, Sukhbir asked the district administration to send his name for national award.

Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, senior superintendent of police SSP (rural) Harkanwalpreet Singh Khakk, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Rajesh Sharma, and Ranike’s son Gurinderpal Singh Laali Ranike and others were also present on the occasion.
