Addressing traders at a function to distribute health insurance cards under the Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana in Pathankot on Tuesday, he said the Akali-BJP government had always strived for the welfare of traders.

He said the Delhi residents were paying more taxes and inflated electricity bills and traders were being harassed under the AAP government. But the situation is different in Punjab, he added.

Sukhbir said the Congress was trying to tarnish Punjab’s image by claiming that 70% of its youths are drug addict. “I challenge the Congress leaders to prove their allegations. We save other states by seizing drugs which come from across the border,” he said.

He said Punjab was placed better then the neighbouring of Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Rajasthan. “No communal violence took place in the state in the nine years of the present regime, but Punjab remained on the boil under the Congress rule,” claimed Sukhbir.
