Singh told the HT: "As per the directions of director general school education, Punjab, and circle education officer, Nabha, I made a surprise visit to the schools. At government senior secondary school, Karamsar, three teachers were found absent from duty, one of them from long. At government high school, Kaloti, one teacher was found absent."

Singh said the teachers went on leave without informing the school principal.

He also expressed concern over the lack of cleanliness at the Government High School, Chapar.

On the instructions of deputy commissioner, Rajat Aggarwal, district education officer, secondary, had directed all government schools to clean their water tanks once every month. However, Singh found the instructions are not being followed.

The sinks of water tanks are in a deplorable condition, he said, adding that a report has been submitted to circle education officer, Nabha, for further action.
