To make agriculture a profitable profession, while deciding the minimum support price (MSP) of agriculture products, the cost of enhanced expenses on production, rise in diesel and fertiliser prices should be evaluated by the government, state leader of opposition Sunil Jakhar has said.

Addressing a committee of the party formed on social and economic challenges at the Congress Chintin Shivir at Jaipur, Jakhar said it's regretful that in order to fill the grain stores of the nation its produce has been buried under the debt.

As and when there is more production of crops, farmers have no choice but to throw it away on roads, while in case of less production it's only a handful of traders who take lion's share of the profit, he said.

The public welfare schemes should be made and implemented in view of interests of the urban poor while urbanisation should be done in a systematic manner to facilitate better life and amenities to all, he added.
