With more than 200 school teachers who have been deputed to conduct house to house survey, as booth-level officers (BLO), for opening accounts under Prime Minister Narinder Modi’s ‘Jan Dhan Yojna’ is affecting studies of students.
School heads of various government schools have asked teachers to take classes and every teacher is teaching more than 100 students at one time.
This is a violation of the Right to Education Act, which says that teacher pupil ratio must be1:30 but in the government schools every teacher is teaching more than 100 students.
“How will we improve our results if teachers are deputed to conduct surveys,” said, a school principal, on condition of anonymity.
Another school headmistress said, “Eight teachers from our school are deputed as BLO to conduct the survey from the last 10 days and other teachers are complaining that it is difficult to handle two sections at a time. It is disturbing the school environment also.”
A teacher who is on duty as a BLO, said, “I am on duty from last several days. I go house to house to conduct the survey and due to this my students in school are suffering.”

{{/usCountry}}He added, earlier, the government had announced that teachers would be only deputed for elections and census duty but now they were even deputed on duty to conduct surveys.
Deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal said, “Booth-level officers from all departments are deputed to conduct the survey and it’s not only school teachers who are alone on duty. All BLOs are directed to conduct the survey in the last two hours of their duty so that they can continue it till evening. We have not directed them to conduct the survey in the morning and they can take their classes till 1pm.”
