Union information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari has sought early start of Amritsar-Lal Kuan (Nanital, Uttarakhand) train via Chandigarh which has already been approved by the railway ministry.

Tewari, in a press release issued on Thursday, said the train would help link Punjab to Punjabis settled in Terai region of Uttarakhand. He said that he had earlier been told that the train was to start from July, but had been delayed so far.

The minister also sought a stop for the train at Bazpur railway station in Uttarakhand's Udhan Singh Nagar district, which is an important halt.

He also suggested that the train be named suitably so that people know about the places and routes on which it would ply on.

At present, the train's name is Amritsar-Lal Kuan.
