Three illegal mining cases registered in Amritsar: One held, two absconding

The police recovered three sand-laden tractor-trolleys from separate locations on Monday.

The police of Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts registered three illegal mining cases against three persons after recovering three sand-laden tractor-trolleys from separate locations on Monday.

A man has been arrested and two are absconding.The arrested accused has been identified as Sona Singh of Kirtowal Khurd village in Tarn Taran while the absconding accused are Balwinder Singh of Kirtowal Khurd village and Jaspal Singh of Ghnowala village falling under Ramdas police station in Amritsar.

The first case is registered on the complaint of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Hardial Singh of Harike police station. The ASI said, “During patrolling, we saw a sand-laden tractor-trolley coming from Sutlej river side. We indicated the vehicle to stop but instead of making a halt, the driver tried to reverse.”

“We gave a chase to the vehicle, however the accused Balwinder managed to flee from the spot. We confiscated the tractor-trolley from the spot,” the ASI said.

The second case was registered in the same police station following a complaint by ASI Sawinderpal Singh. “A naka was laid at a T-point near Booh village. During checking, we stopped a tractor-trolley coming from Sutlej river side. On inspecting the vehicle, we recovered illegal sand and the driver, Sona Singh, was unable to show any purchase record, following which he was arrested and the vehicle was confiscated,”said the ASI.

The trio were booked under Sections 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 21 of the Mines and Minerals Act.
