The road was inaugurated by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in October last year. It has developed big potholes at several places. Also, bitumin has come out all along the road. The road was constructed by the Bathinda Development Authority (BDA) while a railway overbridge (ROB) on the road was constructed by the Railways. The road connects the Bathinda-Malout road with the Bathinda-Badal village road. After the road was inaugurated, the vehicles plying from the Basal road towards Malout and vice versa stopped entering the city.
Chief administrator of the BDA Manish Kumar said that he has inquired into the matter and it has emerged that as the road was constructed in 2011, but heavy traffic was not supposed to ply on it till the construction of the railway overbridge. "After the completion of the ROB, heavy vehicle traffic was diverted on it which has taken its toll. However, the contractor has been asked to fully repair the road to make it fit for heavy traffic and the same will be done by March after weather becomes conducive for work," he said.
