Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday said that the state government had set a target to construct personal toilets in all the houses of the state by October 2019 and about 86% of the target had already been achieved.
Speaking at the fourth meeting of sub-group of chief ministers on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Niti Aayog) in New Delhi, Khattar also put forth various suggestions regarding the Abhiyan in the meeting held under the chairmanship of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is convener of the sub-group.
Considering the decision of the Haryana government to make construction of toilets in their homes a mandatory condition for the candidates of panchayati raj institutions’ (PRIs) elections as a significant step towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, it was recommended to implement this decision in other states as well. This was the fourth and last meeting of Niti Aayog and within 10 days, the report of the meeting would be sent to the central government along with the sub-group’s recommendations.
Khattar said that after a detailed discussion in all the four meetings of the sub-groups, a unanimous recommendation was made to provide a grant of Rs 15,000 each to the BPL families for the construction of toilets and to give awards from village to state levels for Swachhta Abhiyan.

{{/usCountry}}He also put forth the suggestion to create awareness against defecation in open areas through private television channels, FM radio and community radio.
Khattar also recommended to make cleanliness an important part of initial training programme for employees and officers at all levels of all departments.
