In Amritsar, 10 school buses were impounded as part of the drive on Wednesday.

“We have launched checking of school buses and the ones not meeting the norms of Safe School Vahan scheme would be impounded,” Amritsar district transport officer Lovejeet Kalsi said.

“This will continue in the coming days to ensure that all abide by the norms. We are warning the owners of the vans who are not abiding by the norms and I feel that even the school administration is equally responsible as they allow these vans to operate from their premises,” she added.

School buses which have been running for more than 15 years won’t be allowed on the roads anymore.

In Patiala, the DTO has issued 164 challans to school buses in the past eight months and around 28 challans to schools buses in last two months during such drives.
