The construction of RCC chimney for 1,980-MW (3 x 660 MW) Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) had been awarded the ICI Ultratech award 2013 for being outstanding concrete structure under the infrastructure category.
Out of 22 nominations under various segments the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI, Punjab centre) and Ultratech Cement Ltd awarded the 'ICI - Ultratech award' for outstanding concrete structure of chimney at TSPL, Mansa, at Chandigarh.
The award was presented to Raj Singh Khamesra, Sandhya Maurya, both from TSPL, He Jingiun and LV Liang of Sepco-1 department, Praveen Kumar and DK Ghosh by SP Singh, chairman, ICI Punjab Centre, on Wednesday.
It's pertinent to note that on the intervening night of October 19 and 20, four labourers were killed at TSPL while giving finishing touches to this chimney. The labourers were not wearing safety belts and fell off the lift after a rope of the lift snapped. The police had booked unidentified people under Section 304-A (death caused due to negligence) of the IPC and started a probe.
Sterlite Energy Limited, a Vedanta group company, at an approximate cost of `11,000 crore, was given the task of completing the first unit of 1,980-MW (660-MW x 3) of the thermal power plant.
Inauguration today
The district administration officials are on their toes to make preparations at TSPL to cater to around one lakh people on November 25. Around 60,000 chairs have already been placed in TSPL. Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal would be present during the syncronisation of the first unit of 660-MW TSPL. Besides local MLAs, the higher police officials, including Bathinda zone IGP Paramjit Singh Umranangal and the officials of state government, have reached TSPL to inspect the overall arrangements.
