The ongoing protests and road jams against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in various parts of the state has started affecting online trade also. E-retailer giants like Amazon and Flipkart which have done a roaring business in the last few days by offering huge discounts on their offerings, are finding it hard to deliver orders to the customers through couriers. The delay if prolonged , can see a lot many customers returning the orders.
On Tuesday, Amazon apologized to its clients for the delay citing disturbance in the state. “We are sorry to deliver your order due to ongoing unrest in and around your area”, they informed in an e mail to one of the customers who was tracking the order.
“I was assured of the delivery by October 20 but today I got the message that it has been delayed. The company has not intimated in how much time I will receive the parcel. I might cancel the order as I needed it for my parents’ wedding anniversary,” said Rachint who is a regular e buyer.
The ongoing strife has added to the woes of the trading companies who were already battling to clear the backlog due to huge jump in the sales during the festival season.

The brick and mortar stores are seeing much less rush these days despite the Navratras which is considered an auspicious time for shopping. “We are not receiving many rural customers these days as people are unsure of the situation.The market is definitely seeing a slump,” said Rakesh Jain, a local trader.
