Two cops booked as accused escape from lock-up

The Amritsar rural Police have booked two policemen after two suspects in an NDPS case, escaped from the lockup in Mehta police station, after feigning illness. The accused cops have been identified as Shamsher Singh, Munshi, and Banarsi Das.

The Amritsar rural Police have booked two policemen after two suspects in an NDPS case, escaped from the lockup in Mehta police station, after feigning illness. The accused cops have been identified as Shamsher Singh, Munshi, and Banarsi Das.

The suspects who escaped from the lock-up have been identified as Sahib Singh and Kehar Singh, both residents of Gaggar Bhana village.

Mehta police station SHO Avtar Singh said that Sahib Singh and Kehar Singh had been arrested in connection with an NDPS Act case against them.

"Sahib Singh pretended to fall ill and faint, while Kehar Singh raised an alarm. The two cops on duty went inside to check up on Sahib Singh. Shamsher Singh, the munshi, went to get water for Sahib Singh, the arrested accused, Banarsi Das was left alone with the two accused, who pushed him aside and fled," said Avtar Singh.

He added that the cops had been booked under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC.
