Two 'depressed' Jagraon farmers end lives

Two farmers allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Jagraon in Ludhiana district on Monday. Jugraj Singh of Sherpur Khurd village was rushed to hospital after he consumed some poisonous substance at his home. The doctors, however, declared him as brought dead.

Two farmers allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Jagraon in Ludhiana district on Monday.

Jugraj Singh of Sherpur Khurd village was rushed to hospital after he consumed some poisonous substance at his home. The doctors, however, declared him as brought dead.

Jugraj's family said he was under debt and suffering from depression. The police handed over the body to the family after the postmortem.

In a separate incident, Gurmail Singh, 62 of Lame Jatpura village ended his life as he was "unable to bear the medical expenses incurred on his illness." He was under depression, said the police. The police have started proceedings under section 174 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in both cases.
