Two girls among three killed in road mishaps on Pakhowal Road

Three people, including two girls, lost their lives in two road mishaps on Thursday. Shockingly, both the mishaps occurred near Phullanwal Chowk on Pakhowal Road.

Three people, including two girls, lost their lives in two road mishaps on Thursday. Shockingly, both the mishaps occurred near Phullanwal Chowk on Pakhowal Road.

Passersby told that area was accident prone and mishaps were a routine affair here.

In first incident, Manoj Kumar Sharma, 32, of Harpreet Colony was mowed down by a speeding tractor-trolley near Pakhowal Chowk on Thursday morning. Manoj, a blacksmith by profession, was going towards Pakhowal road on his scooter. As he reached near Pakhowal chowk, a tractor-trolley laden with fodder hit him leaving him injured. The driver of tractor trolley tried to flee, but passersby nabbed him and handed him over to the police.

Manoj was rushed to hospital, but he died on the way.

Sadar police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence against the accused identified as Gurpreet Singh.

After the incident, road was cleared and traffic was resumed.

Hours after the road mishap, a speeding truck killed two girls at the same point. The deceased have been identified as Smriti Gupta, 19, of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and her friend Ritika Arora, 18. Both of them were students of BA first year.

The locals said if the police have made arrangements at the point to control the traffic, lives of the girls could have been saved.
