Senior superintendent of police Hardial Singh Mann told mediapersons that under the night policing scheme, an inspector of the Samana police station arrested two people who had attempted a bank robbery in State Bank of Patiala's Gajewas Branch on July 15 night.

The suspects fled the spot when the bank manager and his colleagues reached the bank. Those arrested are identified as Harjit Singh, a resident of Meerut; and Gurmit Singh, a resident of Jalalabad. The police have recovered two gas cylinders, a cutter, a screwdriver and a Nano car (PB-10-DN-6892).

During the preliminary investigation, the suspects revealed the name of their gang members. There are several cases registered against them in different police stations across the country. The suspects are habitual offenders and their further interrogation will help nab other gang members, the police said.

In another case, the SSP said, the Rajpura police have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of three women and a man.

The gang members used to board crowded buses or would stand in the queues at public places and steal gold ornaments and other valuables of people.

There are 22 cases registered against Debo in various police stations of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, 15 cases against Sukho and four cases against Gejo. Three of them had been declared proclaimed offenders (POs) in various cases. The women were into the habit of committing offences and further investigation is on, he added.
