Two held for setting sanitary store on fire

The Nakodar police on Saturday arrested two former employees of a sanitaryware shop in Dakhni Adda on charges of causing fire on May 28 night.

The Nakodar police on Saturday arrested two former employees of a sanitaryware shop in Dakhni Adda on charges of causing fire on May 28 night.

Investigating officer assistant sub inspector Rachhpal Singh said that the accused have been identified as Rajiv Kumar alias Mintu, a resident of Mohalla Kamalpur, and Vedparkash alias Sonu, a resident of Mohalla Rajputan.

Both were employees at PuriSanitary store and were dismissed in December 2012.

IO said that the accused bought a highly inflammable chemical through a Rajpura(Patiala) based courier service, which was delivered to them on May 15.

The accused sprayed the chemical in shop and set the warehouse on fire. Arm of one of the accused was badly burnt in the process. Sanitary items worth over Rs two crores were gutted in the fire.

IO said that the accused have confessed to their crime and told the police that committed the crime to take revenge.

A case under sections 457(housetrespass) 435, 436(mischief by fire or explosive with intent to destroy house etc.) and 120-b (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has been registered.
