The district police have arrested two persons and recovered four illegal weapons from their possession. One of them was involved in supplying illegal weapons in the district.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti said that Navin Gaikwad, a resident of Gwalior in Uttar Pradesh, was nabbed on the Bathinda-Dabwali road near the Pathrala bus stand. Police recovered three .315-bore pistols and three live cartridges from his possession.

Bhatti said that the accused, who worked as a labourer in the Guru Gobind Singh refinery near Rama Mandi, had been supplying the weapons brought from UP to the people in the region for the past over two years. The accused used to earn a profit of about Rs 15,000–20,000 with the sale of one weapon. The police have also come to know about the involvement of another man, a resident of Haryana, who worked in the refinery in the supply of illegal weapons with Gaikwad. The police would also inquire about him from Gaiwad.

Another accused Jagsir Singh was nabbed with a, illegal .32-bore pistol and two live cartridges on the Jaitu-Goniana road by the Nehianwala police. Both accused have been booked under the arms Act.
