The deceased have been identified as Manpreet Singh, 27, and Inderpreet Singh, 23, both residents of Barewal.

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) police have registered a case against unidentified driver of the Innova car for reckless driving and causing death due to negligence and have launched a hunt to identify the accused.

Manpreet’s cousin brother Surjit Singh said they have gone to Raghunath Enclave police post in connection with a scuffle in which they were involved.

After meeting the police officials concerned, the duo came out to go home, while he along with Manpreet’s father and others were at the police post.

All of a sudden they heard a sound of collision of vehicles. They rushed outside and were shocked to see Manpreet and Inderpreet lying on the road in a pool of blood. However, they came to know that an Innova car had hit them and fled the spot.

Manpreet Singh was driving the two-wheeler and is survived by his wife and two children. He was cremated on Monday.

Inderpreet was preparing to go abroad. His brother Beant Singh is settled in the USA.

The family has kept his body in mortuary and will cremate him on Tuesday as they are waiting for Beant to arrive.

The police have initiated investigation to identify the driver of the Innova car.

Though the police and the district transport office have initiated a drive against drunken driving and speeding, they have failed to deter people from reckless driving.
