In a remarkable judgment, court of principal magistrate of Juvenile Justice Board Pratima Arora instead of sending two teenagers, who were convicted in snatching cases, to juvenile home, ordered them to serve patients at the civil hospital. The teenagers have to complete 150 hours of community service in six months.

The convicts have joined community service at Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital in the city with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) Ann Jal Sewa Trust. The trust has been providing free food to needy patients in the civil hospital.

The NGO has been recording attendance of the accused teens and also calculating their time spent in community service. The NGO will submit the report to the district social security officer, who will inform the court about the same.

According to the NGO officer-bearers, the teenagers have been helping the volunteers in cooking and distributing food for the patients. One of the accused, who is Jawahar Nagar Camp resident, was arrested by the Division Number 5 police for snatching mobile phone from a man. His accomplice, who was adult, was sent to the Ludhiana Central Jail. But as the said accused was minor, his case was referred to the juvenile court. He has confessed to his crime.

Lesson for life
Instead of sending them to juvenile home, the court has ordered them to serve the civil hospital patients. The teenagers have to complete the 150 hours of community service in six months.
