The Karnal police have arrested two women in an alleged seduce-and-extort case. The suspects have been identified as Kamalpreet Kaur of Jundla and Dilpreet alias Kamlesh of the Hansi Chowk area in the district. They were caught on Friday night with `2 lakh they had extorted. Kamalpreet is also an accused in a drug peddling case registered in Karnal.
A local court on Saturday sent the accused to two-day police remand. Meanwhile, officials said it appears to be a well-oiled racket. The involvement of several people, including certain corrupt policemen, was being probed, they added. The 35-year-old real estate dealer (name withheld to maintain privacy) from Sonepat has complained to Karnal superintendent of police Abhishek Garg that two women were threatening to implicate him in a false rape case and were demanding `30 lakh.
After the victim produced audio clips to buttress his claim, Garg formed a team under deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Satish Kumar to get the matter probed. The team laid a trap and arrested the women near a mall in Sector 12 on Friday night and recovered `2 lakh, which were duly marked by the district officials for the official operation to nab the accused.
“These women identified their victim in Sonepat and established contact with him on WhatsApp messenger. One of them lured him and established physical relations at a Karnal hotel this month. Later, she started demanding `30 lakh and threatened to file a rape case against him, if he didn’t pay up,” said the DSP.
