The appalling and mysterious abduction, kidnapping and likely murder of UK hotelier Ranjit Powar has sent shock waves amongst the NRI fraternity across the globe. It has further shaken the already shattered faith of NRI's in the criminal justice system of India, particularly the state of Punjab.
In a press released, senior Congress leader and former MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said Ranjit Singh Powar a renowned UK hotelier landed at Amritsar on May 7, 2015 and was supposed to return to England on May 14 but he went missing in mysterious circumstances.
He alleged that Punjab police is clueless either due to complete inefficiency or political interference, something which is well known about the working of the state police.
The family of the victim Ranjit Powar has been running from pillar to post and has announced a cash award of 25,000 UK pounds, but to no avail.
He said that chief minister and the deputy chief minister have maintained a stoic silence over on the sensational disappearance of NRI Ranjit Powar and if such serious incidents concerning the NRI's are to be taken so lightly by the Punjab government, then what's the point of holding NRI "Samelan's" each year.
He demanded from the chief minister to personally supervise the case and ensure justice to the family of Ranjit Powar.
