Civil surgeon Dr AS Jarewal said that ultrasound records of Apex Hospital and VS Scanning Centre had been confiscated. The woman had submitted an affidavit, regarding sex determination being carried out in the hospitals.

"The woman has said that her in-laws forced her to go for the sex determination test. She had a four-year-old girl. Her in-laws wanted a son this time," said Jarewal. Officials also confiscated the videography record of the tests.

After a preliminary inquiry, officials have found that one of these hospitals did not keep a record of ultrasounds conducted on the woman. However, receipts issued to the woman were found. "A thorough inquiry will be conducted. If the hospitals are found guilty, strict action would be taken," said Jarewal.

MD of VS Scanning Centre also denounced the charges. "It's a conspiracy to defame us."
