Punjab governor and UT administrator VP Singh Badnore with city MP Kirron Kher unveiled a plaque of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage site at the Capitol Complex on Saturday. It was on July 17, 2016, that the complex, a masterpiece of Le Corbusier, was included on the World heritage site list. The UT administration had vying for the status since 2007.
The buildings at the Capitol Complex include the Open Hand monument, Punjab and Haryana high court, Tower of Shadows, Geometric Hill, the legislative assembly and the secretariat. The Capitol Complex, also designed by Le Corbusier, represented India for the heritage status.
The Capitol Complex, spread over more than 100 acres in Sector 1, is the prime manifestation of Chandigarh’s architecture designed by Le Corbusier, with the Shivalik hills in the backdrop. Those who want to see the Capitol Complex can visit the tourist information centre in Sector 1 to register for a tour. One needs to carry an identity proof such as a licence or a PAN card.

His performance marked the celebrations on inclusion of Capitol Complex as UNESCO’S World Heritage site in July 2016. Born in Gwalior, Khan belongs to the sixth generation of Bangash lineage of musicians.
