Commuters had a harrowing time on Wednesday as diesel autorickshaw drivers observed another day of strike protesting against the decision of not allowing them to ply on Chandigarh roads.
Hundreds of auto drivers gathered at Sector 5 based ground of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA). They parked their vehicles on the ground, staged a sit-in and raised slogans against the UT administration.
The auto drivers voiced a retaliatory warning of not allowing the Chandigarh Transport Union (CTU) buses from plying on Panchkula roads.
Ravi Kumar, an auto driver, said, “I was able to support my family of four as there was enough ferries in a day for me from Panchkula to Chandigarh . But now I am without any work.”
Another auto driver Naresh Kumar said that banning diesel autos had no logic as a number of CTU buses were also running on same fuel.
On the other hand, a number of people were caught unaware as the strike was not pre-announced. People were either forced to take rickshaws or were seen walking back to their places.
