In the Punjab police constable suicide case, the UT police have sought a legal opinion from the district attorney for registration of a case against the cops against whom the victim had alleged in his suicide note that he was being harassed by them, which forced him to take the extreme step.
The constable, Raj Kumar, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Monday. His body was found by his wife in a Maruti car parked on the road in Sector 39. He succumbed to injuries at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
Ranjodh Singh, station house officer, Sector 39, said during the preliminary investigation, it was found that Kumar had taken some money from one of the cops - whose name has figured in the suicide note - on interest.
The cop had even lodged a police complaint against Raj Kumar as he failed to return the money as per the commitment.
It has also been learnt the deputy superintendent of police - another name mentioned by the accused in the note - had called him repeatedly for recording of his statement in the case. The SHO said since proceedings was part of the case, which was the reason, they had sought a legal opinion from the district attorney that whether it was an abetment to suicide case or not.
Rajkumar, 45, a constable in the Punjab police was posted at the Punjab police headquarters in Sector 9, Chandigarh. He was residing in Sector 24. On Monday, he consumed poisonous substance after parking his car on the road in Sector 39 and also informed his wife.

{{/usCountry}}The suicide note recovered from him had blamed three Punjab police cops including a head constable, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and an employee with the office of the inspector general of police (IGP) for his death.
Police said the victim had taken money on interest from one of the cops and failed to return it.
Meanwhile, police have handed over the body to his family after postmortem at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.
