The award has been given under the FIST (Funds for improvement of science and technology infrastructure in higher educational institutions) programme of the department of science and technology, government of India.

Department head BK Bansal said the funds would be utilised for purchasing large animal endoscope and molecular diagnostic equipment. “Every year, the department treats more than 17,000 large and small animals at the university clinic,” Bansal said.

He said, “The department has already established the facility of ultrasound, endoscopy and echocardiography for disease diagnosis in dogs and cats. The procurement of large animal endoscope will help in providing specialised services in diagnosing and treating referred cases of cows, buffaloes and horses throughout Punjab and adjoining states.”

Bansal attributed the success of achieving this project to the co-operation of department colleagues. He expressed his sincere thanks to the funding agency. GADVASU vice-chancellor VK Taneja and director of research and dean post-graduate studies SNS Randhawa congratulated Bansal and his team for getting the project.

Currently, the department is running four other extramural projects funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), University Grants Commission (UGC), Punjab Farmers Commission and Pharmaceutical Industry.
