Victim's mother demands capital punishment for accused

Talking to HT from Mumbai, she said though the accused had been arrested, her innocent daughter died minute by minute since the attack.

"She told me she wanted to live but the heinous crime done by the perpetrators overpowered her," said Kaur. She said the accused should be made to bear the pain that her innocent daughter and the whole family bore.

"Harpreet used to tell me that she wanted to live. She wanted to know if she could be cured and lead a normal life. The doctors had given up but I used to lie to Harpreet that she would be cured soon," she said.

"For the past six days her health was sinking. She had stopped communication and finally died a painful death. I used to see her from the window. On Friday morning, the doctor told me that she had given up," Kaur said.

She said they had deposited Rs 5 lakh with the hospital in advance with the help of Ludhiana police. A bill of Rs 6 lakh was pending of with the Ludhiana police had transferred Rs 2 lakh more on Thursday evening and had promised to transfer more in the coming days.
