Jaitley said he had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Central Bureau of Investigation director on the matter, enclosing copies of all relevant documents. During a press conference, Jaitley said Venture Energy and Technology had defaulted on a contract concerning hydroelectricity project work in Himachal Pradesh, but received time extension to complete the job.

"The Virbhadra Singh government gave the company 10 months more, and the firm's promoter paid `3.5 crore by cheque to Virbhadra Singh and his wife, Pratibha Singh (member of the Lok Sabha)," Jaitley alleged, adding that the money had been shown as loan, and Virbhadra and his family made shareholders in another firm of the promoter. "This is an open and shut case of corruption against the present chief minister of Himachal Pradesh," said the BJP leader.
