Amit Doda, one of the accused in the Abohar murder case, has claimed that at the time of murder in Abohar on December 11 he, along with uncle Shiv Lal Doda, was in a “business meeting” with senior Congress leader Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, at a Delhi hotel.
After being presented before the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Satvir Kaur, Amit told the media that he was innocent. “Both my uncle and I have nothing to do with the murder. At the time of the crime, we were discussing business matter with Congress MLA Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi over a cup of coffee at the Oberoi in New Delhi,” claimed Amit. “We personally had nothing against Bhim Sain and the entire story has been concocted to tarnish our political image,” he said.
Rana Sodhi, Congress MLA from Guru Har Sahai, when contacted, said, “There was no scheduled meeting with Amit Doda or Shiv Lal on December 11. When I entered the hotel, he along with his uncle was sitting with Rajinder Chadha, relative of former liquor baron Ponty Chadha. We had a half-an-hour meeting over a cup of coffee.”
Sodhi claimed that he had no business relations with Shiv Lal or his relatives. “I have no words to describe the brutal murder and have demanded exemplary punishment for the accused, whosoever they may be,” Sodhi said.
