Water scarcity a big issue

More than 50,000 Budhlada residents are suffering from water scarcity with no canal water to be available, now for about a month due to the waterworks. This happens four times a year, with residents struggling for a drop of water during these times.

The locals are making do by using motors installed in their homes to pump out the ground water, believed unfit for drinking and are thus risking their health. Over the last three days, city residents are living in a pitiable condition with no water in their taps and are living by borrowing water from their neighbours.

After the recent merging of Budhlada village into Budhlada city, there are now 23 wards. With no canal water available, both the waterworks including the one in main city and other in Budhlada village are suffering.

Potable water from six Reverse Osmosis plants is available to residents at cost of Rs 80 per month. The RO near the over-bridge supplies water to ward number 7, 8, 9 and 10, whereas the ROs installed at Bazigar Basti, ward no 4, and other slum areas supplies to nearly 500 customers.

Budhlada nagar council executive officer Amrit Lal said, "Over the last two days, water to locals has not been supplied with no canal water. Residents have been facing problems, but we have requested the higher authorities to resolve the issue at the earliest."
