'Water, sewerage facility is top priority'

The state government is committed to provide water supply and sewerage facility to villlages, as well as other urban facilities, Nakodar MLA GS Wadala said this at a function in Tut Kalan village on Wednesday.

The state government is committed to provide water supply and sewerage facility to villlages, as well as other urban facilities, Nakodar MLA GS Wadala said this at a function in Tut Kalan village on Wednesday.

He laid the foundation stone of a Rs 1.91-crore sewerage project to be executed by the department of water supply and sanitation and would be completed in a year.

The main and branch sewerage lines (5 km) will be laid across the village with a provision for a treatment plant. Sub-divisional officer Rajit Kumar said work had been allotted to a private agency, which would maintain it for five years and after that it would be handed over to village level sanitation committee. SDO said that two villages of Nakodar sub division are among 100 village in the state, who have got grants under this scheme. He said that tenders for laying sewerage lines at Rassool village had been called and work would be allotted soon.

Village sarpanch Baljit Kaur said that residents had collected Rs 1.81 lakh to become eligible for receiving grant for sewerage project. Inquiries revealed that those residents would get sewerage connections that have septic tanks in their houses as sewerage line would drain only liquid waste not solid waste.
