Sidhu said a meeting was held in Chandigarh between his department and HP additional chief secretary (culture & tourism) Ram Subhag Singh and it was decided that the two states will give a strong push to the project.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two states during the SAD-BJP tenure but the project was shelved in 2014 for no known reason. Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has directed to revive the project, said Sidhu.

He said an MoU will be signed this month to start work on the project.

Ram Subhag said the project was cleared on Thursday by the HP cabinet.

The 3.5 kilometre ropeway will cost an estimated 200 crore.

Sidhu said they will rope in a top-notch company with accident-free record keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims.
