Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's rally on April 25 will now be organised in the open due to lack of space at Grain Market near Jalandhar Bypass here.

Market officials denied permission for a public meeting under the sheds claiming that fresh grain was lying there.

Police commissioner Sanjiv Kalra along with deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Harsh Bansal and other officers visited the Grain Market to check security arrangements.

Sensing the unpredictable weather, organisers of the rally - Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - proposed that the land in the Grain Market be covered under sheds so that downpour, if any, does not affect the rally.

A team of officers visited the market to see the proposed venue. However, mandi officers showed reluctance to give sheds for the rally because of arrival of wheat crop in the market, which has been stored under the sheds.

The agencies have lifted 21,765 metric ton of crop from the grain market, while 62,701 metric ton crop is yet to be lifted. The Mandi officer said organisers have agreed upon holding the rally in the open.
