Tanu suffered minor burns on the left arm and leg, while the criminals escaped. She was immediately rushed to the government Rajindra Hospital, where she was reported to be out of any danger.

Police sources said Santosh Sharma, mother of the victim, suspected the complicity of Tanu's in-laws in the attack, as she had been having marital discord.

She said her daughter had been married to Jatinder Kumar, a resident of Ajnoda village near Samrala, in 2007.

Based on the complaint of the victim, Kotwali police booked Jatinder Kumar and two others under Sections 341/324/34 of the Indian Penal Code.
