Woman killed, 9 injured after tractor-trailer hits three-wheeler in Ludhiana

A 22-year-old woman died and nine others suffered injuries after a tractor-trailer laden with stubble hit a three-wheeler in Lohara village on Tuesday morning.

A 22-year-old woman died and nine others suffered injuries after a tractor-trailer laden with stubble hit a three-wheeler in Lohara village on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Shababin of Giaspura flats.

The injured are Janana, 35, Nazrana, 24, Shamina, 22, Palkin, 40, Mehzab, 20, Mohammad Asim, 32, Karan, 20, Sama, 30 and Megha, 18. Karan is the three-wheeler driver while the rest of the injured are residents of Giaspura flats and rag pickers by profession.

They were going to collect plastic from garbage dumps, which is their source of income.

Janana said they took the three-wheeler for work around 6am. When they reached near Nirmal Palace in Lohara, a speedy tractor-trailer hit the vehicle and due to the impact, the three-wheeler turned over.

They suffered injuries but as Shababin was sitting in a corner, her head hit the ground, due to which she died.

After the incident, driver of the tractor-trailer escaped from the spot with his vehicle.

Locals informed the police, who reached the spot and rushed them to civil hospital.

They initiated the investigation and registered a case against unidentified driver of the tractor-trailer for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.

The police also scanned CCTVs installed in the area to trace the accused.

Meanwhile, condition of all the injured was stated to be stable.
