The Public Works Department (PWD) will take one more month to complete the infrastructure augmentation work at three government model senior secondary schools in the city. The deadline, which had already been extended thrice in the past, is April 30.

The department had been given the work to add 23 new classrooms at GMSSS, PAU; 10 at GMSSS, Cemetery Road; and 12 at GMSSS, Model Town.

The work still left is whitewashing, electrical fittings and fixing glasses on the windows, for which the department needs at least a month.

Talking to Hindustan Times, PWD contractor Parvinder Singh Saini said, "The construction work will be complete by May end."

Sanjeev Thapar, principal of GMSSS-PAU, said, "We expected the work to complete early as we are running the school in two shifts due to paucity of classrooms. As there will be summer vacations from June 1, we now will be able to introduce the single shift from July 1 only. We have already written to the higher authorities to provide us furniture for the 23 new classrooms."
