Monsoon is round the corner but the work to clean Buddha Nullah is not complete yet. Only 70 per cent of the cleaning work has been completed so far. Earlier, MC authorities had directed the staff concerned to complete the work by June 30 but they would take more time.
The staff of operations and maintenance (O&M) wing of the MC claimed that the cleaning work of Buddha Nullah will be completed by July 10. Besides, the MC officials concerned have not taken any initiative to shift the dumps from the banks of Buddha Nullah.
The litter accumulated in the nullah has yet to be cleaned from various points near Chandar Nagar and other areas falling under MC limits.
The staff deployed for Buddha Nullah claimed that the work was started late by 20 days this year due to which cleaning work will be completed in the second week of July.
A resident of Chandar Nagar said, “The MC authorities should complete the cleaning work of Buddha Nullah at the earliest. If it is not cleaned on time, the residents will have to suffer as the drain overflows from several points. The dumps should also be shifted.”
MC executive engineer Ranjit Singh said the work is going on in full swing. He expressed hope to complete it by July 10. On being asked about the shifting of dumps, he said the health branch is responsible for it.
