Chaudhary said the bill would legally back the grant of subsidised food grain to 67% of India's 1.2 billion people, and will ensure food and nutritional security to the people.

Addressing a public meeting in Nakodar on Sunday, Chaudhary said the food bill was a historic and landmark achievement of the Congress government and its leaders, who had endeavoured to provide food and nutritional security, by ensuring the access to adequate quantity of food at affordable prices to the people.

He said the UPA government had once again fulfilled their 2009 election manifesto promise by ensuring right to food.

Lambasting the SAD-BJP government, he said the state government had failed to fulfil any of its promise highlighted in poll manifesto till date. He urged the people to gherao the SAD-BJP leaders when they visit their areas and question them what they have achieved from their election manifesto as promised after assuming power.
