Youth Congress protest in Tarn Taran

The Punjab Youth Congress on Friday staged a protest march in Tarn Taran in protest against the brutal assault on a woman and her family members by Tarn Taran cops five days ago.

The Punjab Youth Congress on Friday staged a protest march in Tarn Taran in protest against the brutal assault on a woman and her family members by Tarn Taran cops five days ago.

Leading the protest, Punjab Youth Congress chief Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary expressed deep anguish and pain over the recent incidents of crime against women in Punjab. He slammed the state government for its "utter failure" in handling the vulnerable law and order situation in the state.

The Congress leader alleged that the recent incidents of crime against women had infused terror in the minds of everyone, particularly women.

Recounting some recent incidents, the Youth Congress president said, "Be it the shooting of the ASI father who was protecting his own daughter, the attack on a police officer in Ludhiana or the latest incident where a woman and family were beaten up by cops in Tarn Taran, all incidents point towards the deteriorating law and order situation in the state."
Chaudhary demanded that deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal should be immediately relieved of the home portfolio.

A Congress delegation also met the victims of the police assault in Usma village of Tarn Taran.

District Congress committee chief Dr Dharamveer and several other Congress leaders, including Harminder Gill, Sukhpal Bhullar, Kulbir Zira,Vikas Soni,Sukhraj Bhaggupur,Kawar Sandhu and Damanjit Singh, also participated in the protest.
