SI Baljinder Singh was taken into custody soon after the registration of the case under criminal and anti-corruption laws, while co-accused Bikramjit Singh of Amritsar and Sunil Kumar of Bhikiwind are on the run.

A police press release issued here on Wednesday stated that a widow, Paramjit Kaur of the Batala Road locality here, had complained to police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh that the SI had kept her son in illegal confinement at the Islamabad police station even though he hadn't a case against him.

The complaint suggested that on the SI's demanding, she had paid him `25,000 as bribe for son's release but he had demanded more. After verification, police commissioner Aulakh ordered lodging a case against the SI and his alleged accomplices.
