A youth shot his girlfriend and later killed himself with a countrymade pistol at Chidden village on Saturday, police said.
Deceased Ranjodh Singh and Sandeep Kaur (33) were in a relationship. Ranjodh Singh killed the girl at her house before committing suicide at his place, though the reason behind his taking the extreme step in not clear, said the police.
In her complaint, Sandeep's mother Rajbir Kaur told police, "My daughter and Ranjodh knew each other and he used to visit our house often. On Saturday, when my daughter was alone at home, Ranjodh shot her. He left the place and later killed himself at his house."
The police reached the spot on receipt of information. Superintendent of police (headquarters) Jasdeep Singh said, "We are told that they were in a relationship, but what forced the youth to take the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. The police are investigating the matter."
